Help
Private testing. DJ Duplicate Guard is in private testing and works on Beatport for now. Traxsource follows once Traxsource approves it.
What it does
DJ Duplicate Guard is a Chrome extension for DJs. On Beatport, it marks the tracks you already bought, including the same recording on another release, such as a compilation or a reissue, and the tracks you already previewed. Your purchase and listening history stays in your browser.
Getting started
- Install the extension in Chrome on Windows or macOS. During private testing, we send testers the link.
- Open the extension's library page: click the extension's toolbar button, then Open the library.
- Import your Beatport purchases, as described below. Badges appear on Beatport pages as soon as purchases are imported.
Importing your Beatport Collection
- On the library page, choose Import from Beatport. Read the notice, then choose or name the Beatport account the purchases belong to.
- Open your Collection pages on Beatport. The extension reads only the pages you open yourself. It never opens, scrolls, or pages through your Collection for you, and it never contacts Beatport on its own.
- To import everything, open every page of your Collection with no filters applied. The library page shows how many pages have been read and how complete the import is.
- The extension never collects your password, and never reads or sends your cookies or sign-in data.
What the badges mean
Badges appear on Beatport's search, chart, label, release, track, and cart pages.
| Badge wording | Meaning |
|---|---|
| In imported library according to source | This exact listing is in your imported Collection. |
| Previously purchased — you confirmed this recording | You marked this listing and one you bought as the same recording. |
| Probably purchased before — compare versions | You bought another listing of the same recording, such as a single that is now on a compilation: the same artists, title, and mix, at the same length. |
| Probably a remaster of a recording you own — compare masters | You own another master of this recording. |
| Similar track in imported history — check version | A quiet marker: your purchases hold a similar track, but its version can't be confirmed. |
A track with no badge has no match in your imported history. That never means you never bought it: the purchase may not have been imported. Different mixes, instrumentals, and edits whose lengths differ by 20 seconds or more are different recordings, so they show nothing.
Click a badge to see its details: the purchases compared, their fields side by side, and the reasons. You can mark a pair Same recording or Different recording, and undo either. A badge on a track's artwork lets clicks through to Beatport's Play button. For those, use the extension's toolbar button: it lists the page's badged tracks, each opening its details.
On the cart page, a summary under the track count says how many tracks in the cart you may already have. It never changes your cart.
Listening history
- It is off until you turn it on in the library page, after its notice.
- When it is on, a Beatport preview you play for 5 seconds or more is remembered. Opening a page, pressing play, or pausing doesn't count.
- A track you heard gets the badge "Already heard here". Another listing of a recording you heard gets "You may have heard this recording before".
- When you start a preview of a recording you may have heard before, a small notice appears above Beatport's player. It never stops or changes playback.
- In a track's details, Mark heard and Mark unheard correct what is remembered.
Decisions
In a track's details you can mark it Exclude or Interested, and press the same button again to clear it. Decisions show in the details and in the toolbar button's list, never on Beatport's pages.
Backing up your library
- Export library on the library page saves your whole library as one JSON file. Keep it somewhere safe: it holds your purchase and listening history.
- Restore from a file shows what a file adds before anything is written, then adds only what your library is missing. It never turns on importing or listening history.
- A reminder appears when your library has changed since its last export: after 7 days or 100 changes by default, adjustable on the library page. A reminder is not a backup: only an exported file is.
What Beatport can see
Beatport can see that a badge or notice is on its page. It can't see your purchases, what you heard, your decisions, or the details pages, which belong to the extension.
Limitations
- Beatport only for now. Traxsource follows its approval.
- Chrome on Windows and macOS. Other browsers are not supported.
- Matching is careful: a repeat purchase may get only the quiet marker or no badge, and no match never proves you never bought a track.
- When Beatport changes its pages, badges can pause on some of them until the extension is updated.
